The Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) was established in
September 2004 as a result of House Bill 2292, which consolidated mental retardation
services and state school programs of the Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation
community care, nursing facility, long-term care regulatory services of the Department
of Human Services, and aging services and programs of the Department on Aging.
PPAT works to strengthen and promote the goals of its members and the industry at large
through its leadership and advocacy efforts and its commitment to the provision of mental
retardation and other developmental disability services. PPAT fosters the building of
collaborative networks and partnerships among not only its members, but among all interested
in improving the quality of services and supports for persons with disabilities.
The Arc of the United States is the national organization of and for people with mental
retardation and related disabilities and their familiesand is devoted to promoting and
improving the quality of services for consumers and families. TheArcLink puts information
about services in the hands of those who need it most and is a powerful way to get
information directly to the consumer.
The Arc of Texas is the oldest and largest nonprofit volunteer organization in the state
committed to creating opportunities for people with mental retardation and other developmental
disabilities to be included in their communities. The Arc supports families, advances public
policies, provides training programs, and builds a statewide network of advocates.
